About CHARM

CHARM is a registered non-profit organization in Osaka city, and it renders individual support for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). CHARM also works with hospitals, government agencies, private organizations, business sectors and concerned individuals to fill the gap between people's needs and services specialized institutions offer.

CHARM's Vision

CHARM aims to realize a society where everyone has access to medical service. Our priority population is foreigners and others who is prone to be left behind due to language barriers, visa status, lack of information about welfare system.

CHARM's Mission

1) CHARM provides individual support to PLWHA and their families/partners.
2) Cooperate with government agencies and private sectors to facilitate foreigners and PLH to have better access to medical service

CHARM's history

2000 Number of foreigners were brought to hospitals. They had developed AIDS. They were not a part of Medical Health Insurance system and learned about their HIV infection after they developed AIDS. Doctors and counsellors felt the need of a civic organization to respond to the needs of foreigners in Japan.

2002 Center for Health and Rights of Migrants (CHARM) was registered at Osaka Prefecture government.
-Multi-language telephone hotline service for HIV and sexual health started (Project of Osaka prefecture and Osaka city)
-Saturday testing on HIV and STI started (Project of Osaka prefecture and Osaka city)

2011 Support programs for Japanese PLWHA start
